The Phone

THE PHONE - The Center's 24-hour telephone crisis line is known as THE PHONE. Since 1970, THE PHONE has grown from a single line at LSU to a program supporting seven lines which link a regional network of community and specialized crisis services. THE PHONE also answers state-wide calls to the HopeLine Network (1-800-SUICIDE).

Volunteer paraprofessional counselors trained in crisis intervention and suicide prevention staff the lines. Calls to THE PHONE come from all sorts of people with all sorts of feelings and problems including depression, anxiety, loneliness, interpersonal problems, addictive disorders, financial concerns and thoughts of suicide. Our telephone counseling is free and confidential.
