Survivor Services

The Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center offers ongoing support to survivors of suicide, those who have lost a loved one to suicide.  The Survivors of Suicide (SOS) Support Program provides a weekly support group and/or individual sessions for survivors. The support group meets every Tuesday night from 6:30p.m. - 8:00p.m. Individuals interested in the group are asked to call the Margo Abadie via email or at (225)924-1431 for an assessment before starting the weekly meetings.

The purpose of SOS is to offer survivors a safe place where they can share their feelings, thoughts, and memories about the person they lost to suicide. Because people grieve differently, the group allows each member the space they need to heal from this difficult loss. Group members are encouraged to find ways to express their feelings and learn to care for themselves.  Some of the tragic responses felt by many survivors are: shock, denial, shame, guilt, anger, trust issues, loneliness, and depression. As survivors of suicide, these individuals are in a high-risk group for taking their own lives, as well. The SOS support group acknowledges this risk, and offers each survivor hope and assistance in dealing with his or her loss.
