04.08.08  STRATEGIC PLAN IN PROGRESS
The Center’s Board of Directors is in the process of developing a long-range strategic plan for the agency. A local consulting firm is working on a pro-bono basis with the Board and staff to develop a comprehensive plan. The Board of Directors and the Center’s Executive Director, Norma Rutledge, recently participated in a board retreat. Prior to the retreat, a survey was conducted that included Center staff and community stakeholders.

04.09.08  VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION MONTH
Volunteers are the foundation of our Center. In 2007, paraprofessional crisis line counselors, counselor consultants, LOSS team members, Survivors of Suicide group peer facilitators and board members donated over 26,600 hours to the Center. April is Volunteer Appreciation Month and each week in April we are holding a drawing and presenting the volunteer chosen with a small token of appreciation. The month will culminate with an afternoon gathering at the Baton Rouge Zoo on Sunday, April 27th, where volunteers and their families will be honored.

04.09.08  AAS CONFERENCE IN BOSTON
Seven staff members will attend the American Association of Suicidology’s (AAS) 41st Annual Conference in Boston. The focus this year will be “Advancing Suicidology: Embracing Diversity in Research and Practice.” The 20th Annual Healing After Suicide Conference will take place concurrently and is sponsored by AAS and the Suicide Prevention Action Network USA (SPAN).

04.09.08  CAMP CHRYSALIS
Camp Chrysalis, our one-day camp for children ages 6-12 who have experienced the death of a loved one, will be held in mid-July. If you know a child who has been impacted by a loss please contact the Center business office at 225-924-1431. There is no fee for Camp Chrysalis, however, contributions from businesses and individuals in our community to help fund the camp are greatly appreciated.
