From our grassroots beginnings on LSU's campus in April 1970, to the acquisition of our permanent home on Revere Avenue in January 1992, the acquisition of the Traumatic Loss Center and Meditation Gardens our growth as been steady. We continue to expand our services to serve the community and fulfill our mission.

Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center
4837 Revere Avenue
Baton Rouge, LA 70808
The Center serves as our administrative building as well as providing additional counseling areas. The Center also houses The Phone and United Way 2-1-1 call centers.

Meditation Gardens
The Meditation Garden, just outside of the Center is a place of growth, rebirth, and renewal. It is a place where clients, members, volunteers and staff of the Center can meditate, find peace-of-mind, and alleviate stress.

The garden is dedicated to the memory of Alan S. Appelbaum, Ph. D a telephone volunteer for 13 years who died suddenly in 1994. His mother, Mrs. Mareaner Appelbaum made the original donation for the garden. With the support of the Foundation and generous donors who "planted" bricks in the garden, this quiet place of refuge is now a reality.

The Joseph Thomas "Jody" Howell IV
Traumatic Loss Center
3013 Old Forge
Baton Rouge, LA 70808

The Joseph Thomas "Jody" Howell IV Traumatic Loss Center serves as our primary training and meeting facility and houses all of our bereavement services.

The building was named for Joseph Thomas "Jody" Howell IV, the son of Annette Duchein Barton, who was killed in an airplane accident at the age of 23. This building has a name to remind us daily of the tremendous challenges we face whenever tragedy occurs. A name gives this building a personality; it is connected to us with a human condition. It also serves to remind us of our mission - to help those in need of our services and to change the tide of despair that so many individuals in our community experience. This building, purchased in 2002, gives new life to that mission.

Just as this center makes a difference in the lives of others, your pledge can make a difference. For information about pledges and Leadership Gifts you may contact Sue Kenyon or call 225.924.1431.
