About Us

The Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center takes care of the Baton Rouge area in times of traumatic loss.

We opened in 1970 as a 24-hour confidential telephone crisis counseling service, THE PHONE, on the campus of Louisiana State University. Our role in crisis intervention and counseling now comprises all facets of traumatic loss, including one of the most traumatic, suicide.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to offer prevention, intervention and postvention services that provide support in times of crisis and reduce the impact of suicide in the community.

OFFERINGS
We offer 24-hour counseling provided by paraprofessional counselors. We are also active in prevention activities and participate in a community referral network. Our programs consist of seven different categories of service in addition to a board and foundation which oversee the work of the Center.
